Sittampalam Kumaranathan is a Senior Consultant at Varners. He is a trusted advisor in complex and high value corporate and real estate transactions. Kumaranathan was enrolled as an Attorney-at-Law of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka in 1983.
Current Practice
Kumaranathan possesses extensive experience in the fields of real estate / land law and conveyancing, having actively advised and assisted clients with large scale housing schemes, condominiums, and high rise developments. He has advised on many issues relating to condominium development including the initialising and execution of deeds of mutual covenants and management agreements, development agreements, and so on.
His extensive clientele includes major blue-chip entities listed on the Sri Lankan Stock Exchange, banks & financial institutions, diplomatic missions, trade establishments, private enterprises, and charities. He also advises such clients in relation to corporate and company law and foreign investment, civil litigation and probates, immigration and emigration, taxation, labour and human resources.
Other Relevant Experience
With expertise also extending to corporate matters including foreign investment, takeovers, exits, asset sales and governance, Kumaranathan also advises on matters concerning agency, distributorship, company incorporation, and investment through the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka.
Notable Appointments
Kumaranathan has previously served on the Board of Jaya Container Terminals Ltd (a subsidiary of Sri Lanka Ports Authority) in the capacity of government appointed director. He was also invited to serve as a member of the Fair Trading Commission of Sri Lanka, constituted under the Fair Trading Commission Act, No. 01 of 1987 (subsequently replaced by the Consumer Affairs Authority Act, No. 09 of 2003).
Other noteworthy appointments include membership on the resource panel on the theme "Foreign Investment" at the National Law Conference organized by the Bar Association of Sri Lanka. He has also served as a Member of the Committee on Registration of Title, appointed by the Bar Association of Sri Lanka, during the period 2008 to 2010.
