Geethika Mannaperuma is an Associate at Varners. She has a wealth of experience handling trial and appellate court matters and has served the Attorney-General’s Department as a public prosecutor specializing in maritime crime laws and law of the sea. Geethika served as a legal specialist for United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) providing assistance for legal reforms to the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DFAR), Government of Sri Lanka on Law of the Sea and IUU fishing.
Geethika is a trained practitioner for Rights under the ICESCR and trained advocate for Alternate Dispute Resolution. She is a Human Rights advocate passionate on social and environmental justice. She is also a lecturer for law on construction contracts, Human Rights law and Evidence law for many years.
She is an Alumni of the U.S. Department of State and was a research fellow to a think tank in Washington D.C., working on Gender Parity Index and Democratic systems. She also has familiarized herself with the legal system in the United States attending to pro bono cases on asylum, immigration and gender-based violence related custody matters. As a freelance project manager, she managed project Catalyze funded by USAID to pioneer the first technological intervention of the textile industry in Sri Lanka through integration of Blockchain Technology in the supply chain creating traceability and transparency in the impact of business on people, planet and profit.
